Firefighters pay last respects to heroes

The ceremony of paying last respects to the firefighters of fire station No 16, who tragically died on 30 November 2013 while putting out the fire in a garage complex in Topolyovaya Alleya Street, has taken place in Moscow.

On 30 November 2013, firefighters of specialized fire station No 16 of 24th team of federal fire service in Moscow: unit commander Anatoly Volkov and mater firefighter Sergey Grushin were killed in the line of duty while extinguishing the fire in Vykhino-Zhulebino in the southeast of Moscow.

Senior officials of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and Moscow Main Office, staffers from all over Moscow and citizens of the city came to pay last respects to the heroes.

In all fire stations in Moscow, at 11:30 AM, all firefighters of the brigades on duty lined up at the facades of the fire stations and tuned on the fire engine sirens to commemorate the killed.

This way the firefighters in Moscow said the last goodbye to their colleagues killed in the line of duty.

This was tragic death and a great loss not only for the firefighters’ friends and families, but for the whole fire department of the city and country.

The senior officials of the Moscow Main Office and of the Russian Emergencies Ministry are providing the firefighters’ families with all necessary help and support, mourning together with them.

The fire community of the Northwestern district also paid respects to their colleagues who had not returned from the operation.

At noon all divisions of Saint-Petersburg garrison commemorated Anatoly Volkov and Sergey Grushin with a silence minute.

The firefighters mourn and remember. At 11:30 AM in fire stations with lowered flags the firefighters lined up at the facades, turned on the flashers on the fire engines and commemorated the killed firefighters with a silence minute.
