Russian Emergencies Ministry summarizing results of Far East flood response operations

A research and development conference “Experience of full-scale rescue operation during the 2013 flood in the Far Eastern Federal District” is taking place today at the All-Russian Research Institute of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations. The conference was opened by Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov. The event is attended by leading scientists, specialists and independent experts.

The conference will draw the main results of actions by forces of Russian Disaster management System during the rescue operation in the Far Eastern Federal District and will discuss the problem of protecting people and territories during a devastating flood, estimate efficiency of protection measures, work out subsequent strategy of response and prevention of similar disasters.

It is also planned to discuss further work to improve the system of protection of people and territories against natural and industrial emergency situations applying modern approaches and technologies. Namely, this concerns such areas as space monitoring; rigging the specialized equipment with GLONASS system; use of drones; rigging the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s aircrafts with supervisory control system; development of integrated notification system, etc.
