On Monday, the Indonesian authorities said the search-and-rescue operations were over, however, the Russian specialists that arrived on Saturday on two Il-76 planes with special equipment were inspecting the buildings during this period as there could be people in the debris.
The base camp EMERCOM of Russia was held in the area of the airport in Padang, the capital of the province, that had become the center of the earthquake; the search-and-rescue works were held there as well as in the nearby villages: Lupu-Alu, Pariaman, Payakumbu.
The rescuers from other countries had also been working in other areas in Padang and nearby villages, but did not find any alive.
On Monday, Russian specialists set up a helicopter-borne hospital EMERCOM of Russia on the football field not far from the Lupu-Alu village, where the earthquake had destroyed the local hospital. During the 3-day period, the doctors EMERCOM of Russia helped 500 injured people, performed several dozens of operations, assisted the locals with medicine.
At present, the hospital is demounted, and it will be delivered to the airport within a day from where, as it is scheduled, on Friday morning two “Il-76” planes will take all the EMERCOM of Russia unit—80 people (rescuers, dog specialists, psychologists), three cross-country vehicles and the helicopter-borne hospital back to Russia.
