The Head of Center of Emergency Psychological Aid EMERCOM of Russia Yulia Shoigu reported that eight psychologists, who were helping the victims of the Sayan-Shushenskaya hydro-electric power station and their relatives in the Republic of Khakassia, are planning to come back to Moscow. “At present, the group of the Center employees is leaving the site of the Sayan-Shushenskaya hydro-electric power station accident. Four psychologists of the Siberian Regional Center EMERCOM of Russia will stay there,” she said. Six psychologists of the Siberian Regional Center EMERCOM of Russia were working together with the eight psychologists of the Center of Emergency Psychological Aid EMERCOM of Russia.
According to Yulia Shoigu, psychologists EMERCOM of Russia attended to both the families of the injured and perished during the accident workers and everyone who appealed to them for help. “1898 people appealed to us for help of whom 592 received individual aid, 514 were treated in a group and 792 people got informational and psychological assistance,” reported the Head of the Center of Emergency Psychological Aid EMERCOM of Russia Yulia Shoigu.
Furthermore, the Head of the Center did not exclude the possibility of psychological unreadiness of some workers to return to the station and to continue work at the Sayan-Shushenskaya hydro-electric power station. “Concerning the workers, as an expert and specialist I can suppose, that a certain category of people can be afraid of being inside the building of the station. This is a normal response to such abnormal circumstances. Some time later the majority of these people will not be scared any more and their emotional condition will return to normal. The others will probably need psychological aid, however, this is another sort of aid which can be given on a daily basis,” added Yulia Shoigu.
