Large-scale exercises EMERCOM of Russia have taken place in Kamchatka

The aim of the exercises is readiness check of the unified state system of prevention and disaster management in the Far East Federal District in the threat of a tsunami.

The exercise was held by the Deputy Head EMERCOM of Russia Alexandr Chupriyan and was attended not only by the representatives of EMERCOM of Russia, but the federal executive bodies of the Commission on Emergency Situations of Primorye and Kamchatka regions, Sakhalin region, the heads of municipalities of the Kamchatka Region, located in tsunami-prone zones.

At the three training points actions of the on-duty personnel of Kamchatka Branch of Geophysical Service, Russian Academy of Sciences in obtaining information about tsunami-earthquake were worked out; the duty shifts and the operational duty shifts of the Center Crisis Management Kamchatka were training their actions when receiving the "Alarm tsunami" signal. Also practical warning activities to protect the people and on liquidation of the tsunami took place.

130 people were involved and 30 items of equipment were used exercise on prevention and tsunami-recovery exercises.

By 2010, the country will have obtained advanced early warning system for tsunamis. As part of an All-Russian integrated system of informing and warning the population, a system of warning of tsunamis in the Far East is being created now. Creation and use of the All-Russian system of informing and warning the population would reduce the time frame to bring the necessary information in a 1.2-fold, and in some cases - 2.2 times.
