Divers of the Search and Rescue Unit EMERCOM of Russia in the Kaliningrad Region learn to work at great depths in an autonomous mode

Divers are able to carry out a wide range of underwater tasks, from simple monitoring and research to complex underwater technical work such as welding, exothermic cutting, and work with hydrodynamic tools. At the same time, the depths can be completely different, both from 0 to 12 (decompression-free), and descents to average depths from 12 to 60 meters. Depths over 60 are deep-sea descents.

Descents in diving equipment for deep-sea descents (up to 100 meters) require high physical, psychological and technical training from divers, because the human body is affected by pressure 10 times higher than normal atmospheric pressure, pitch darkness and temperatures close to 0 degrees, all this imposes certain requirements for a deep-sea diver.

Divers should be familiar with the method of calculating descent decompression, since his life and the lives of his comrades directly depend on this.

Since March 2021, 8 divers of the Russian Emergencies Ministry's search and rescue team in the Kaliningrad Region, under the guidance of mentors from Centrospas, have been training for autonomous diving. To date, they have completed 128 descents, including deep-water ones, and have worked under water for a total of 168 hours.

In the result of the training, the participants will receive a permission for autonomous diving. At the first stage - at depths of up to 45 meters, at the second - at depths of up to 80 meters and at the third - more than 100 meters.
