Every year on April 30, Russia celebrates Fire Day. This year the service is 372 years old.
The fire service continues to develop and improve dynamically. This is a powerful operational structure with modern technology and highly qualified professionals who, in difficult conditions, perform a large list of tasks to extinguish fires and liquidate emergencies.
Today, there are more than 1,500 fire brigade garrisons operating in the country, which include more than 23 thousand response units with a total number of more than 402 thousand personnel. These are employees of the Federal Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, employees of regional, municipal, departmental and private fire brigades, as well as about 55.2 thousand firefighters as part of voluntary fire brigades. More than 66 thousand pieces of equipment are in service.
During the past year, 386 fire departments were formed with a total number of more than 2.4 thousand people.
Last year alone, fire fighters made almost 2 million visits to extinguish fires and carry out emergency rescue operations. More than 39 thousand people were rescued and about 158 thousand people were evacuated.
On this day, the gratitude are addressed to the veterans who share their unique experience with young specialists. This year, more than a thousand young lieutenants (cadets) and 50 specialists trained in master's programs will join the ranks of fire protection units.
The key to the successful work of firefighters is not only high-quality training, but also sports. Strength, agility, speed, endurance are the basis for the formation of the character of a fiery front fighter, his high moral and combat qualities. Many fire brigades have training towers, where, in the process of training, firefighters practice their skills and abilities that will be useful to them in combat work.
To develop the skills of extinguishing fires in the fire protection system, a unique type of service and applied sport has been created since 1937 - fire fighting, and later - fire and rescue sport. Representatives of the Russian national team regularly become world champions and winners of competitions in fire and rescue sports. This kind of success can only be found in our country.
Employees of the State Fire Service have earned a well-deserved prestige and recognition not only among the entire population of our country. Colleagues-firefighters and residents of foreign countries remember with great gratitude the assistance of Russian aviation in extinguishing wildfires in Chile, Portugal, Israel, Armenia.
On the eve of Firefighting Day, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, 233 employees of the EMERCOM of Russia were given state awards of the Russian Federation, 36 were awarded honorary titles for their courage and heroism during the elimination of emergencies, as well as high personal performance in service activities.
