The online hackathon of the EMERCOM of Russia on the prevention of emergencies has started

From 28 to 30 May, EMERCOM of Russia is launching an open online competition in the field of artificial intelligence with the assistance of the Research Data Infrastructure project. The competition was attended by 169 data scientists, analysts and machine learning specialists across the country. There are 45 teams in total.

The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of EMERCOM of Russia Victor Nichiporchuk. “The center of any digitalization should always be a person, his interests. Technology should make his life more comfortable and safer. It is the protection of the population, material and cultural values that is one of the main tasks of the Ministry, all the presented tracks within the hackathon are aimed at solving this strategically important state task. I am sure that the proposed solutions will find their practical application in our activities,” he said.

Within the framework of the hackathon, participants solve three problems.

As part of the first, a model of the development of the situation is being built, which makes it possible to assess the likelihood of opening the Lena River and the occurrence of a blockage in its section for 10 days in advance during a flood period.

In the course of the second task, specialists build a predictive model that allows to estimate the water level (including the maximum) at the gauging stations during the flood-hazardous period on the Lena River for 30 days in advance.

Participants in the third area are developing a machine learning model that determines the likelihood of an accident in the context of the time interval, the segment of the road and the number of potential victims.

EMERCOM of Russia on an ongoing basis initiates the search for innovative solutions for the timely identification of probable places of occurrence of natural and man-made emergencies, as well as prompt response to them.
