On November 23, Acting Head of EMERCOM of Russia Alexander Chupriyan held a working meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas. The parties discussed issues of interaction between the two states in the field of prevention and elimination of emergencies.
Alexander Chupriyan noted that the department is actively cooperating with the Cuban side in the framework of humanitarian assistance and the provision of the necessary support. So, this summer, 120 tons of humanitarian aid in the form of food, as well as about 40 tons of medicines and medical products were delivered to Havana. The issue of additional humanitarian assistance is being worked out.
The delegations considered the possibilities of developing the Regional Russian-Cuban center for training fire and rescue specialists. For 7 years of its existence, 5 regional training courses on various topics have been held on its basis, more than 130 specialists from 17 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean have been trained.
“The work of the Center is very important for the entire Latin American Region, since the comprehensive training of specialists makes a significant contribution to increasing the preparedness of Cuba and other countries for disasters and disasters. The accumulated material and technical and training potential allows the Center to provide practical assistance to the national emergency services,” Alexander Chupriyan emphasized.
During the meeting, the training of fire and rescue personnel was noted. 24 Cuban specialists are currently undergoing training in the educational institutions of the Russian Emergencies Ministry under the Fire Safety program.
The parties also discussed the issues of the Republic of Cuba joining the International Sports Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers and the promoting of fire and rescue sports in the country.
The Cuban delegation thanked the Russian colleagues for the humanitarian assistance and support provided.
