EMERCOM of Russia: furry guardians of peace

Every day, volunteers of the Semenychi detachment join the Russian Emergencies Ministry staff. At first, it was an exclusively cat detachment, but over time, other animals began to appear in it. It was named in memory of the Tyumen firefighter cat Semyon.

“Currently, more than 300 cats and dogs serve in the Russian Emergencies Ministry units. There are even squirrels, fish, and turtles. They perform an important task - they give warmth and support, and help rescuers and firefighters with their presence after difficult calls,” the Russian Emergencies Ministry Information Policy Department noted.

Thus, at the end of December, Moscow cat Tolik received his first rank - warrant officer of the internal service for conscientious performance of cat duties and stress relief for employees. They even made special miniature shoulder straps for the cat, and in the future, they plan to sew him a uniform.

The Kursk firefighters have a purring Lafet. This is what firefighters from the 8th fire and rescue unit of the EMERCOM Main Office for the Kursk Region called a smoky kitten brought from another fire. A summer house was burning, and a homeless kitten met the firefighters along with the flames. As if sensing reliable protection from the firefighters, the animal did not leave their side for a step. They took him under their guardianship, and for several years now he has been meowing at the firefighters, asking to be picked up, and happily gobbling up homemade cutlets.

A cat named Ivanych lives in the team of the Fire and Rescue Unit No. 1 of the EMERCOM Main Office for the Ulyanovsk Region. Local firefighters say that he simply appeared on the threshold of the unit and over time became a real talisman. According to local tradition, in order for the day to pass without incident, Ivanych must be given a treat when he takes up duty.

In the Yaroslavl region, a firefighter from the Russian Emergencies Ministry brought a pregnant cat Marusya to the unit, saving her from severe frosts. The kittens were given away to good hands, and the cat remained to please the personnel, conducting breedings together with the head of the 19th fire and rescue unit. Masha is very energetic, catches mice and insects, helps the dispatcher fill out documents and monitors the activities of the unit. Every time she goes to a fire, she worries about the firefighters, without leaving her post.

In the Trosnyansky district of the Oryol region, the dog Umka guards the 34th fire and rescue unit, and the cat Marusya, who was sheltered in the specialized fire and rescue unit of Orel, is now serving in the SVO (special military operation) zone. The Oryol detachment "Semenychi" is closely monitoring the progress of the furry employee. She not only quickly got used to the military dugout, but also gave birth to offspring there twice.

In the Tambov region, the mongrel Zhuchka was abandoned on the threshold of the fire department. The Russian Emergencies Ministry employees fed the animal, treated it, and built a kennel. It turned out that she was expecting a new addition. Five puppies quickly found a home in the families of the rescue department. Zhuchka stayed to live in the unit. She understands the commands of the firefighters without words, joined the Semenychi squad, and always waits for the firefighters to return from their missions.

In the Pskov fire department, the ginger cat Gaechka is responsible for feminine care and affection. She chose her home herself, having appeared one day on the threshold of the fire engine garage. From the very morning, Gaechka is on duty at the dispatch console of the orderly. It watches the changing of the guard. Gaechka makes sure that there are no uninvited guests in the garage. Inspection of equipment and machinery is part of the furry rescuer's daily routine. Firefighters find her everywhere - both inside special vehicles and in the storage rooms for combat clothing.
