Complex fire-tactical exercises of units of the Yekaterinburg Fire and Rescue Garrison took place today at the Ekaterinburg-EXPO International Exhibition Center. The main goal of the event was to develop skills in managing fire extinguishing and carrying out emergency rescue operations on the eve of the International Youth Festival.
According to the tactical plan, the fire occurred on the stage of the concert hall. The reason is a short circuit in electrical equipment. During the exercise, it was simulated that the automatic fire protection systems and fire curtain did not operate. Smoke began to rapidly spread along the escape routes, threatening the auditorium, which can seat up to 5,000 people.
The first fire crews on duty in the adjacent Territory arrived at the site of the simulated emergency within 2 minutes. In total, more than 40 firefighters and 20 units of special equipment were involved in extinguishing the “fire,” including tank trucks, ladder trucks, command and staff vehicles and communication vehicles.
An operational headquarters was deployed at the scene of the incident and combat areas were created. The gas and smoke protection service (GDZS) began searching for and evacuating conditional victims. The personnel worked on laying main lines, supplying water to protect adjacent premises and the roof of the building, as well as interacting with the administration of the facility and the city’s emergency services.
During the exercises, special attention was paid to the specifics of upcoming major events.
The Ekaterinburg-EXPO Congress Center is an architecturally complex facility where thousands of people can be present at the same time. The Region has a large-scale event ahead - the International Youth Festival. Therefore, testing algorithms for interaction between emergency services, checking fire protection systems and the coherence of garrison personnel at such sites is an absolute priority. Units of the EMERCOM of Russia must be prepared for any development of events in order to guarantee the safety of guests, spectators and event participants in the event of a real threat.
