Russian rescuers examined Thursday the area of 100 square kilometers around Sendai in northeastern Japanese island of Honshu, which was most affected by the strong earthquake shocks and tsunami.

Today, March 17, rescuers are working over the fishing port and the airport. They cover the area of 100 square kilometers, near the village of Ishinamaki four kilometers north of Sendai.

Their work is complicated considerably by large blockages of vehicles and mutilated metal structures, as well as the fact that the area is listed with a thick layer of silt.

Unfortunately, the rescuers have not found any survivors yet.

The radiation background in the area where Russian rescuers are working does not exceed the maximum allowable level.
